Natural factors, climate, especially soil and have determined the division of La Rioja in three divisions:
Rioja Alta:
With a moderate continental climate, influence Cantabrian, the vineyard extends over calcareous clay soils of gentle topography.
Emphasizes the strain Tempranillo, providing balanced red wines, attractive ruby color, elegant aroma, stable, especially suitable for breeding.
Rioja Baja:
The climate and fertile nature of the terrain provided good harvests, perfectly ripe grapes. The drier climate of Mediterranean influence and favors ferrous clay reds from Grenache, Swiss wine, aromatic and slightly acidic.
Rioja Alavesa:
Are these rugged lands, calcareous, very suitable for the cultivation of the vine, the summers are short and mild winters with some frost but little snow. The vineyard is south facing, sheltered by the Sierra de Cantabria.
This region produces red wines with Tempranillo that both young (grower) and subjected to foster high standards achieved.
On the basis Tempranillo, and wisely studied with small proportions of Garnacha, Graciano Mazuelo and great wines are made of Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva Rioja, wines comparable in quality to the most famous in the world.
Nor should we forget the young white and rearing, of remarkable quality, and rosé wines.
