Introduction
In 2005 Spain became the second largest wine exporter in the world, overtaking France, and surpassed only by Italy.

At the same time, the influential critic Robert Parker has labeled Spain as an undiscovered wine giant and declared that Spain’s potential for “high quality wines has become the wine world’s most fashionable subject and the darling of wine consumers” with “great values as well as terrific wines emerging from virtually every region,” and Wine Spectator has defined Spain as “the new source of Europe’s most exciting wine and food.” This unprecedented growth and critical acclaim has brought a new level of interest, awareness, and recognition for the wine and food of Spain, propelling them into international stardom.
